Designers & Creative Teams Against Domestic Violence was born when founder and victim of domestic violence herself, Karina Gomez-Herrera made her vision and passion of helping domestic violence victims a reality.

Who We Are

Mission

Our mission is to facilitate a violence-free-environment where we can offer a network of services to survivors such as therapeutic counseling, self-development, education, and job training, in the garment industry, which will promote job growth and economic development to the individual and to underutilized business zones in our community.

 

Vision

To facilitate a haven for survivors by bringing awareness, self-healing, and self-sufficiency. DCT will have a state-of-the-art building to offer an array of services and training. Services include psychological, holistic, and creativity therapies through the development of Design, Art, and Music skills. Training is primarily focused on Fashion Design and Sewing which will enable survivors to secure their first job within our network. By proudly producing “Made in USA” top-quality goods, DCT will contribute to the economic development of the historically underutilized business zones by positively influencing job growth in the community and in the garment industry.

Statistics

  • One woman is beaten by her husband/partner every 15 Seconds in the U.S.
  • One in 6 women and one in 33 men has experienced and attempted or completed rape.
  • Nearly 3 out of 4 Americans personally know someone who is or have been a victim of domestic violence.
  • One in 10 calls made to alert police of domestic violence is dialed by a children in the home.

 

Facts Vs. Myths

  • Domestic Violence is a Cycle of Pattern Behaviors:
    • Abusers may seem wonderful and perfect.
    • Gradually become more aggressive and controlling.
    • Abuse begin with behaviors that are dismissed or downplayed.
    • They apologize for their actions or try to convince the person they are abusing that they do these things out of love or care.
  • Myths:
    • Domestic Violence is due to poverty of lack of formal education.
    • Alcohol & Drug use is major cause of domestic violence
    • Men are not victims of intimate partner violence
  • Facts:
    • A battered person has many legitimate reason for staying  in a violent, relationship.
    • A battered person leaves her abusive partner any times.

 

How to Stop Domestic Violence Abuse

Programs

Designers and Creative Teams against to Domestic violence” (DCT) is a pioneer organization that empowers victims of domestic violence to achieve financial independence. The project “Empower for Success” will train individuals in the design industry with qualified curriculum directed by professionals in the Fashion and Artistic field. The Empower for Success project started in 2015 by DCT Executive Director Karina Gomez-Herrera, as domestic violence survivor and professional Fashion Designer she started helping more than a hundred women in her community and raising money for the organization with the intention of help other victims to overcome the trauma and be successful in society.

DCT organizes two events during per year in Florida, “The power of Awareness Fashion Show” and “Empower for Success Marathon” to be held on October 2016. Both events will raise money to start mentoring programs for the victims. In support of the charity project Karnna Fashion Lab plans to help a minimum of 12 victims per year. Karina Gomez-Herrera had built excellent channels of communication and relationship with Designers, Artists, and Business Owners in the Garment Industry, Communities, Art Institutes, Churches, Hospitals, and other social gathering places have already committed with their volunteer cooperation to provide with services and audience for the project’s events.

Fundraising

The Fashion Soul Entrepreneur Fundraiser Event

 

It is to benefit the Designers and Creative Teams Against Domestic Violence Foundation raising funds to provide resources that are not offered through the system to support the victims. The services and training include behavior health and workshops, such as psychiatry, psychological, holistic, and creativity therapies through the development of design, art, and music skills.

The event includes silent and live auctions, networking, lunch, a tribute to honorees, a fashion show, live music, and dance performances.
